Why Royal Reels is blocked in Australia

ACMA found that Royal Reels breaches the Interactive Gambling Act. In July 2023 it asked Australian internet providers to block the site, and its reports have added new Royal Reels addresses since, most recently in Apr–Jun 2026.

Royal Reels blocked: the short answer

Royal Reels is blocked in Australia because the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) found that it offers online casino games to people in Australia, which the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 (IGA) prohibits. In July 2023 ACMA asked Australian internet service providers (ISPs) to block it, along with its sister brand Reef Reels and three other sites. Royal Reels holds no Australian licence.

Seeing Royal Reels blocked on your screen is not the same as an outage. The block works at your internet provider, so you see ACMA’s “Website blocked” page instead of the casino. The brand keeps moving to new numbered addresses and ACMA keeps adding them to its lists; our page on the numbered Royal Reels names explains the pattern.

We don’t publish addresses or ways around the block. For the licence claims and the law in more detail, see is Royal Reels legal in Australia.

How ACMA blocking works

ACMA does not block websites itself. It asks Australian ISPs to block them, using section 313 of the Telecommunications Act 1997 (ACMA, page opened 18 Oct 2026). It does this where serious offences are involved, including breaches of the IGA such as:

  • providing prohibited services to Australians, such as online casinos, online slot machines and in-play sports betting
  • providing unlicensed regulated gambling services, such as online wagering without an Australian licence
  • advertising either kind of service in Australia

ISPs then show a government stop page instead of the site. Australian Government guidelines for these requests (June 2017) say a stop page should name the agency, give the reason, offer a contact and, where appropriate, explain how to seek a review.

ACMA blocked gambling websites: the public list

ACMA publishes an alphabetical list of the illegal gambling websites it has asked ISPs to block, on its blocked gambling websites page. Its quarterly reports, called “Action on interactive gambling”, also list the sites added each quarter. Our counts below come from those quarterly reports, because we could not open the full alphabetical list during our research.

What ACMA’s “Website blocked” page says

When a gambling website is blocked in Australia at ACMA’s request, your ISP shows ACMA’s stop page instead. We read it on 18 Oct 2026. In plain words, it says:

  • access is blocked because ACMA found the site breaches the Interactive Gambling Act 2001
  • offering online wagering in Australia without a state or territory licence is prohibited, and so is offering other online gambling such as slots and casinos, or advertising these services
  • if you think the site was blocked in error, or the block affects you, you can use the online form on ACMA’s website or call ACMA on 1300 850 115
  • Gambling Help Online offers free counselling, information and support 24/7 on 1800 858 858

How to ask ACMA for a review

  1. Use ACMA’s complaint form on its blocked gambling websites page, or call 1300 850 115 (9am to 5pm AEST on working days, according to ACMA).
  2. Give the details: the address you tried, the date and time, your internet provider, and why you think the block is wrong or how it affects you.
  3. Expect follow-up questions. ACMA says you can stay anonymous, and it may contact you for more information as part of its review into why a site was blocked.

ACMA describes this as a complaint about a block. Its pages don’t describe ACMA recovering money from an offshore casino, so for a balance or withdrawal problem, read the section on your money below.

How many sites ACMA blocks

Royal Reels is one of many ACMA blocked sites. The number of sites ACMA asks ISPs to block each quarter has risen sharply in 2026.

Over time the total keeps climbing. ACMA counted 803 illegal gambling and affiliate websites blocked when it added Royal Reels in July 2023, 1,117 by December 2024 and 1,751 by June 2026, all since its first block request in November 2019. In June 2026 ACMA also said more than 230 illegal services had left the Australian market since 2017.

Why it loads overseas but not here

This part is our inference, not ACMA’s wording. ACMA’s requests go to Australian internet providers, so the block applies on Australian networks. A check from another country can therefore see the site load, which is what our manual check found on 16 Oct 2026, while people in Australia get ACMA’s stop page.

That is why our status panel has two lanes, “Outside Australia” and “From Australia”. We don’t test inside Australia by getting around the block; the Australian lane reflects ACMA’s lists and stop page. If the site fails to load for you, our guide for when Royal Reels is not working helps you tell the block from an outage.

What the block means for your money

ACMA’s warning is direct: “Australians who use illegal gambling services risk losing their money” (July 2023). It adds that even a service that looks legitimate is “unlikely to have important customer protections”. In March 2021, when it blocked another group of sites, ACMA urged Australian users to withdraw their money straight away.

Players felt this in late July 2023: two Trustpilot reviewers said the site stopped loading straight after they deposited, one after a $500 deposit.

If you have money in an account:

  • Keep screenshots and written records of your balance, deposits and any withdrawal request.
  • Ask the casino in writing for the withdrawal and a timeline. Our guide to a pending Royal Reels withdrawal covers what delays can mean.
  • Talk to your bank about any payment you dispute, and never pay a fee to unlock winnings (Scamwatch).
  • To see which body handles which problem, read where to report a problem.

We don’t explain ways around the block, because ACMA found the service illegal to offer here and because offers of a “new link” are a common route to lookalike sites.

Royal Reels and the ACMA block: common questions

  • Is Royal Reels blocked in Australia?

Yes. In July 2023 ACMA asked Australian internet providers to block Royal Reels for breaching the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, and its quarterly reports have added more Royal Reels addresses since, most recently in Apr–Jun 2026. People in Australia see ACMA’s “Website blocked” page instead of the casino.

  • What has ACMA done about Royal Reels?

ACMA investigated from 8 May 2023, formally warned the operator, Digibrite S.R.L., on 14 June 2023 and asked ISPs to block the site in July 2023. In Jul–Sep 2025 it formally warned Digibrite SRL again, over a sister brand called The Pokies.

  • Where can I see a list of websites blocked in Australia?

For gambling, ACMA publishes an alphabetical list of the illegal gambling websites it has asked ISPs to block, on its blocked gambling websites page. Its quarterly “Action on interactive gambling” reports list the sites added each quarter.

  • Why does my browser say “Website blocked” in Australia?

Your internet provider is blocking the address at ACMA’s request and shows ACMA’s stop page instead. It is not a fault with your device or a sign that the casino has closed. The page explains how to contact ACMA on 1300 850 115 if you think the block is wrong.

  • Can ACMA unblock Royal Reels so I can get my money?

ACMA’s stop page lets you ask for a review if you think a block is wrong or affects you, but its pages don’t describe ACMA recovering money from offshore casinos. ACMA’s advice to users of newly blocked sites, in March 2021, was to withdraw their money straight away. Keep records and contact the casino in writing.

  • Will the block ever end?

ACMA has not announced an end date for any Royal Reels block we read about. New Royal Reels addresses were still being added in Apr–Jun 2026, and the Gambling Reform Act 2026 adds payment-blocking and other duties from 1 Jan 2027.

  • Can you tell me how to get around the block?

No. ACMA found that offering Royal Reels in Australia breaks the law, and we don’t publish addresses, mirrors or ways around the block. Offers of a “new link” are also a common way for lookalike sites to collect logins and ID.
